Lufthansa May Threaten European Mega-Airline Plan: The German carrier offered Austrian Airlines a cooperation deal that, if realized, would be a blow to plans by three other airlines for a European mega-carrier. “We have held talks in recent weeks and have asked them to make a decision by the end of the month,” Lufthansa spokesman Josef Grendel said, confirming a report in a Viennese newspaper. On Saturday, the daily Der Standard said Lufthansa presented the state-owned Austrian carrier with a detailed proposal that could lure it from the mega-airline plan being negotiated with Dutch carrier KLM, Swissair and SAS.
