Datron Systems Inc. said radio system shipments helped its profits quintuple while revenue rose 13% during its first quarter that ended June 30 compared to the same period last year.

Datron’s quarterly profit was $1.2 million, up from $231,000 a year ago.

The Simi Valley-based designer and manufacturer of communications systems and radio products regained some of the ground lost in a lackluster 1992 first quarter, when profits plummeted 71%. Revenue for the latest quarter rose to $16.5 million from $14.6 million on the strength of sales to the Hellenic Army, Datron said.

Datron also said the Ventura County Superior Court had found in Datron’s favor in a lawsuit against Navcom Defense Electronics for breach of contract. The court, Datron said, had found Datron had suffered damages of $7 million. The judgment is subject to appeal.
