Catalina Marketing Corp. said Tuesday it has filed a patent-infringement lawsuit against Advanced Promotion Technologies Inc. of Pompano Beach, Fla.
The suit, filed in U.S. District Court in Los Angeles, alleges that certain of Advanced Promotion’s point-of-sale promotional services and systems infringe on Catalina’s patents.
“The company has always maintained a policy of vigorously defending and enforcing its rights,” said George Off, president of Catalina Marketing. “This suit is not expected to have any adverse material impact on this year’s earnings.”
The Catalina Marketing Network is in more than 6,200 supermarkets across the nation. Its system monitors products that the customer buys at the checkout stand and then provides that customer with coupons that correspond to those purchases.
Based in Anaheim, Catalina Marketing has 24 offices and more than 320 employees.
