William Seaver, who recently retired as head of Thousand Oaks schools, has accepted a part-time job with the Assn. of California School Administrators.

Seaver, 63, stepped down as superintendent of the Conejo Valley Unified School District on June 30 after 37 years as a teacher, principal and administrator in Oxnard and Thousand Oaks.

After returning from a cruise in mid-July, Seaver became a field representative for the 18,000-member association, a position for which he applied in June, he said.

“I’m looking forward to it, because it lets me keep my hand in education,” Seaver said.

In his new role, Seaver will work about 20 hours per week in Ventura and Santa Barbara counties, San Luis Obispo and Kings County to provide management training and to help school districts solve personnel problems, he said.

The association of dues-paying members traditionally has focused its efforts on lobbying lawmakers in Sacramento, in addition to providing some information services, Seaver said.

As part of a reorganization designed to offer members more personalized services, 10 field representatives are being hired in different parts of the state.

They will work directly with school officials who belong to the group, Seaver said.
