A longtime community activist and volunteer has been hired as the director of the Learning Tree University’s Thousand Oaks campus, school officials announced Tuesday.

Carolyn Kopp, 53, who took over the job last month, said she hopes to expand the business curriculum.

“The economy has been a real challenge for everyone,” Kopp said. “We want to really service the business community.”

Kopp said she wants to see the Learning Tree offer more employee training programs, either on the campus or at local businesses.

Previously, Kopp served as the president/executive officer of the Conejo Future Foundation. She is currently executive vice chairwoman of the Alliance of the Arts, and at one time was a school board member for the Conejo Valley Unified School District.

She also worked for many years as a high school English and journalism teacher in Los Angeles, prior to moving to Thousand Oaks.

“Carolyn Kopp has a very good knowledge of Thousand Oaks and of its business community,” said Michael Gould, president of the Learning Tree University.

“She brings superior skills and experience managing various organizations,” he said.

The Learning Tree is an accredited, nonprofit, educational institution offering courses in career preparation and personal development. It is a national organization with corporate headquarters in Chatsworth.
