LOS ANGELES : Psychologist for Menendez Brothers Ends Testimony
Beverly Hills psychologist L. Jerome Oziel ended his testimony Wednesday after six days on the witness stand, saying Erik Menendez “had a real need to confess” to killing his parents.
Relating for a last time the details of therapy sessions he held Oct. 31 and Nov. 2, 1989, with the Menendez brothers, Oziel said Erik Menendez seemed depressed and “just started spilling out things.”
Oziel is the key witness for the prosecution against Lyle Menendez, 25, and Erik Menendez, 22, who are charged with first-degree murder in the Aug. 20, 1989, shotgun slayings of their parents, Jose Menendez, 45, a wealthy entertainment executive, and Kitty Menendez, 47.
Defense lawyers spent four days attacking his character, focusing on an extramarital affair.
