St. Matthew’s Sets 10th Season
The Chamber Orchestra of St. Matthew’s will offer 10 concerts between Sept. 12 and June 5 at the ensemble’s home, the Parish of St. Matthew in Pacific Palisades.
Music director Thomas Neenan also announced the appointment of Maria Newman as the orchestra’s first composer-in-residence. Three of Newman’s works will be performed during the orchestra’s 10th season.
At the opening concert Sept. 12, the featured work is Stravinsky’s “The Soldier’s Tale,” on a program with songs by Kurt Weill and Bertolt Brecht and Newman’s Trombone Sonata.
Subsequent events will bring the U.S. premiere of Miklos Rozsa’s Rhapsody for violin and orchestra, Vivaldi’s “Four Seasons,” J.S. Bach’s “Magnificat,” the Clarinet Concerto by Copland and two world premieres of works by Newman: her “Young Person’s Guide to the Chamber Orchestra” on Feb. 13 and her “Requiem of the Innocent” on June 5.
