Tyrannosaurus Nix, Rabbis Rule on Dinosaurs
A rabbinical court tried to do the heroes of “Jurassic Park” one better--not merely staving off dinosaurs but banning them.
Rabbi Moshe Gafner told Tara Dairies on Wednesday that the Agudat Israel rabbinical court that he represents will withdraw its kosher endorsement if the company does not stop using dinosaurs on labels and advertisements.
“The dinosaur represents a heresy,” Gafner told Israel radio.
Gafner said the claim that dinosaurs lived millions of years ago contradicts religious teaching that the Earth is less than 6,000 years old.
Tara Dairies officials could not be reached for comment.
The range of kosher licenses, which are used as guidance by up to 20% of Israeli consumers, are granted primarily according to a manufacturer’s adherence to Jewish dietary laws.
