Home sales and prices in Ventura County were among the strongest in California during June, but residential construction is still in the doldrums.
Sales of single-family homes in the county were up 23% from May, while statewide activity declined 3%, according to the California Assn. of Realtors. Sales in the county during June were 11% ahead of June, 1992.
The county’s June median price of $223,450 was up 6% from the previous month and 2% above June, 1992. Statewide, prices were down compared to both May, 1993, and June, 1992.
However, in a separate report, the Construction Industry Research Board said permits for new single-family houses in Ventura County during the first six months of the year fell to 554 from 609 in the first half of 1992.
Multifamily units started in the first six months of this year were off even more steeply, totaling only 91 against 376 a year earlier, the board said.
