World IN BRIEF : PHILIPPINES : 5,000 Flee Homes as Tropical Storm Hits

About 5,000 Filipinos fled their homes as Tropical Storm Tasha swept in from the Pacific, triggering waist-deep floods in Manila and mudflows from the Mt. Pinatubo volcano. The navy said it had sent amphibious trucks, rubber boats and teams of divers to flooded slum districts in the Manila suburb of Pasay for possible rescue operations.
