Clinton Tried to Help the Valley
* The Op-Ed piece by Dan Coen (July 4) moaning that President Clinton had not tried to help the Valley is just wrong.
He tried mightily to help all urban areas with his modest stimulus package. Haven’t you heard? It was killed by a Republican filibuster led by Sen. Bob Dole. He equated helping cities with pork while defending massive subsidies for agribusiness.
However, the markets have correctly judged Clinton’s sincerity and determination in reducing the deficit with their low interest rates, and in promoting the economy. That is why the Valley now has more affordable housing than in decades and small businesses can get loans at non-usurious rates.
Wake up Dan and read something other than the orchestrated nay-sayers of the right.
