Santa Clarita / Antelope Valley : Attorney Kelso Resigns From School Board

ACTON — An outspoken trustee for the school district in Acton and Agua Dulce has resigned.
Nancy Kelso’s resignation was accepted by trustees at their meeting last week. She had submitted a resignation letter Aug. 4, which said only, “I resign effective immediately.”
Earlier this year, Kelso, who often clashed with other trustees, had threatened to resign April 1 after two fellow board members signed a contract accepting a land donation from a developer without the consent of the full board.
Kelso, an attorney, was first elected to the five-member school board in 1985. She was reelected to a second term in 1989. And when voters in the two rural communities agreed last November to expand their district from kindergarten-eighth grade to kindergarten-12th grade, they also selected Kelso to serve on the unified district’s board. Her term expires in November, 1995.
The other trustees for the Acton-Agua Dulce Unified School District agreed last Thursday to make an appointment to fill Kelso’s seat. The board bylaws give them the choice of calling a special election or making an appointment within 60 days.
