JAKARTA, Indonesia —
The wreckage of a Japanese World War II plane has been found in a forest, complete with the skeleton of its pilot, it was reported Friday.
A villager discovered the wreckage Monday near Bontang in East Kalimantan, along with World War II-issue weapons and hundreds of bullets.
The cockpit bears a painted Japanese flag and the serial number 623.
In Japanese on the burned remnants of the tail and body of the plane are the words: “Mitsubishi 3047, 1941” and “The world is above the green mountains.”
