Monterey Park : Auxiliary Firefighters Hired
The Monterey Park Fire Department is beefing up its staff with 10 auxiliary firefighters hired for a two-year training program.
For the first time, the city has started an Auxiliary Firefighter Program for new graduates of certified fire academies. The auxiliary firefighters, who are not paid, will work 24 hours a week alongside the department’s full-time firefighters.
The program’s class of 10 includes two women, the department’s first. The class started July 1.
