Hewlett-Packard to Acquire Software Firm: Palo Alto-based H-P announced that it agreed to purchase Eesof Inc. for undisclosed terms, pending government approval. Privately held Eesof develops computer-aided engineering software used to design high-frequency systems, circuits and devices. Charles Abronson, president and co-founder of Westlake Village-based Eesof, would leave the company to pursue other interests but would continue for a time as a consultant to H-P. Shares of Hewlett-Packard were up 62.5 cents to $75 on the New York Stock Exchange.
