A restoration team has completed work on the statue of Armed Freedom that was removed from the dome of the Capitol in May.

The seven-ton bronze female warrior has been cleaned and restored and will be returned by helicopter to its regular perch on Oct. 23, said George White, architect of the Capitol. He said the scaffolding that has surrounded the 19-foot, 6-inch statue for the last 3 1/2 months will come down so the public can view it up close before it goes aloft again.

“We’re extremely pleased with not only the restoration but with the final coloring of the statue, which is a bronze green, which returns it to its original color,” White said.
