McConnell Wins Speedway Event

COSTA MESA —  Shawn McConnell of Brea won the four-lap scratch main event at the weekly speedway motorcycle racing program Friday night at the Orange County Fairgrounds.

Charlie Venegas of Costa Mesa finished second, Mike Faria of Apple Valley was third and San Juan Capistrano’s Brad Oxley was fourth.

Faria won the eight-lap handicap main event, followed by Louis Kussuth of Diamond Bar, Oxley and Topanga’s Jim Estes.
