Lisa Ling has been appointed to the newly created position of vice president, operations, and chief operating officer at the Casablanca Fan Co. in the City of Industry.
Ling previously worked for more than eight years at General Electric, most recently supervising purchasing and inventory management for more than 100 branches.
Casablanca Fan Co., founded in 1974, produces ceiling fans and climate-control products for residential use.
Dr. John J. Rossi of Glendora has been inducted to the City of Hope Gallery of Medical and Scientific Achievement, the highest honor bestowed by the City of Hope National Medical Center and Beckman Research Institute.
Rossi, who came to the center as an assistant research scientist in 1980, is now director of the department of molecular genetics and has conducted research into AIDS and other major diseases.
The Washington native earned his doctoral degree at the University of Connecticut and a fellowship at Brown University. In addition to his post at the medical center, he is an adjunct professor at Loma Linda University Medical School.
Judith Sterling Morse, a longtime Pasadena civic leader, has been appointed executive director of the California Arboretum Foundation, a nonprofit corporation dedicated to the support of the Los Angeles State and County Arboretum in Arcadia.
Morse has served on the Federal Advisory Board on Child Abuse and Neglect in Washington and a variety of community organizations, including the Pasadena Junior League and Pasadena Historical Society. She currently serves on the board of the Pasadena Family Center, the Pasadena Health Coalition and Hillsides Home for Children.
Erick M. Carreira, an assistant professor of chemistry at Caltech, received a Beckman Young Investigator Award from the Arnold and Mabel Beckman Foundation. The prize of $175,000 over two years is awarded to outstanding young scientists who are still in the first three years of their initial appointment.
Through the honor, Beckman Foundation aims to promote research in chemistry and the life sciences, and particularly to foster the invention of methods, instruments and materials that will open up new avenues of research.
Richard C. Voake, a Bank of America vice president, has been named acting vice president for finance and administration at the University of La Verne.
Voake, an “executive on loan” from the bank, is taking the post following the death of John Mainiero, vice president of finance and administration.
Voake is a commercial banker with more than 25 years’ experience in credit administration and credit review. He also has broad experience with domestic and foreign borrowers including middle-market companies, real estate developers/investors, large corporations and financial institutions, according to University President Stephen C. Morgan.
Voake is a member of the University of La Verne Boad of Trustees and chairs the Investment Committee of the Board. He was an economics major at Stanford University and earned a master’s degree in business administration from UCLA.
