The body of the second-highest leader of Tibetan Buddhism was enshrined Monday more than four years after he died.

The Panchen Lama died Jan. 28, 1989, of a heart attack at age 50. His body had been stored in Xigaze, southwest of the Tibetan capital of Lhasa, while a shrine was built.

During a ceremony Monday, the Panchen Lama’s body, wrapped in yellow satin, was taken by car to the newly completed structure.
