Symantec to Buy Fifth Generation: Bolstering its position in the growing market for computer networking software, Symantec Corp. said it has agreed to take over Fifth Generation Systems Inc. for about $46 million in stock. Symantec, known for its Norton brand of computer utility products, said it will issue about 2.8 million shares of common stock for Fifth Generation, a privately held Baton Rouge, La., company that develops utility programs for personal computers and network operating systems.
