Surprisingly, Loch Ness Didn’t Call

It must be the full moon. Among the catches reported for the past week:
--At Lake Miramar in San Diego County, a 19-pound 12-ounce softshell turtle took a mackerel offered by an angler trying for catfish.
--At Castaic Lake, Tino Sanler witnessed an unidentified 13-year-old catch a 22-pound catfish using part of his hot dog for bait.
--And at Silverwood Lake, three water skiers from Garden Grove claimed a 25-pound striped bass that was struck by one of their skis in the main channel.
“It shows they’re biting on top,” said Kevin Howard of the Silverwood marina.
