Public Education

In the Aug. 27 Letters column, Ruth McGrew makes the misstatement, “In 1776 there was no public education.” Sorry, Ruth. I’m a graduate of Boston Public Latin School, which was founded in 1635 and which has been in continuous existence ever since.
