For dedicated gardeners, here are suggestions from the California Assn. of Nurserymen on what to do in the garden this week:

* For larger blooms from chrysanthemums this fall, remove buds now. Also stake and tie plants to prevent drooping, breaking.

* Bedding begonias will give immediate color in the late summer/fall garden and can be counted on for a repeat performance next spring.
