Unfair to Restrict Businesses in Home

Share

* I am writing regarding the article, “City Planner Takes Aim at Home-Based Businesses,” Aug. 22.

I can’t believe that a businessman like Forrest Frields, who started working out of his own home due to finances at the time, would have the nerve to propose an ordinance that would outlaw dozens of home-based businesses. Doesn’t he remember what it was like to start out on his own? Doesn’t he realize that in some situations, working out of the home is the only way some people can make ends met?

Times are tough out there, and forcing small-scale entrepreneurs into commercially zoned office space will drive many right out of business. And for the home-based business, it seems that what’s relative to one business is not necessarily relative to another, so it would be very hard to draw the line to allow fairness across the board.
