Free Immunizations for Children Offered

Children from 2 months to 18 years old can receive free immunizations Sunday at Kid’s Care Fair at Mountain Gate Plaza Mall in Simi Valley from noon to 4 p.m.
The fair, co-sponsored by Simi Valley Hospital and Health Care Services, will offer free vaccinations against measles, mumps, rubella, diphtheria, tetanus, pertussis, polio and influenza. The fair will also offer free hearing and vision screenings, as well as tests for scoliosis.
This is the fair’s third year in Simi Valley, officials said. Kid’s Care Fairs are offered in six counties around Southern California, but Simi Valley is the only site in Ventura County, hospital officials said. The county Health Department will donate all the vaccine serums and will provide health educators to connect families with ongoing health care resources, hospital officials said.
Last year, 600 people attended the fair and more than 200 children were immunized, said JoLynn de la Torre, the hospital’s spokeswoman. In addition to giving children shots, the fair will also feature clowns, face painting and a fire engine, officials said.
