SIMI VALLEY : Tours of Historic Rail Station Offered

Share

Free tours of the Santa Susana Railroad Station, one of Simi Valley’s oldest and most historic structures, will be offered Saturday and Sunday.

The station, which will be open from 1 to 4 p.m. both days, will feature displays on railroads and model railroading and an operational scale model built by the Santa Susana Model Railroad Club.

Bought by the Rancho Simi Recreation and Park District in the early 1970s, the depot was moved from its original site at Los Angeles Avenue and Tapo Street to a new home in Santa Susana Park on Katherine Road near Kuehner Drive.

The Rancho Simi Foundation, the fund-raising arm of the park district, has been raising money to renovate the depot for the past several years. The tour will include a look at some of the restored areas of the depot, foundation officials said in a release.
