3 More German States Ban Imperial War Flag
Three German states banned the former German imperial war flag Tuesday, bringing to six the number of states to outlaw the banner, which has appeared frequently at neo-Nazi gatherings.
The three states acting Tuesday were Saxony-Anhalt in eastern Germany, Berlin and the west German state of North Rhine-Westphalia.
Following the lead of the eastern state of Brandenburg two weeks ago, the western states of Hesse and Rhineland-Palatinate also have banned the flag, which bears an eagle and an iron cross and was used by the German navy until World War II.
