OXNARD : School Districts to Redraw Boundaries

The Oxnard School District and the Rio School District agreed Wednesday to redraw their boundary lines to accommodate a planned housing development in northeast Oxnard.

The redrawn boundary will not affect any existing homes, school officials said.

The Rio district will now extend south to Colonia Road and west just beyond Del Norte Boulevard.

The land that the Oxnard district gives up is presently farm and industrial property. But it will be developed over the next 25 years to include as many as 3,075 new homes.

“If we had left the boundary alone we would have had kids on one side of the street going to one school and kids on the other going to a different school,” said Sandra Herrera, assistant superintendent of the Oxnard School District.
