Councilwoman Ruth Galanter and the Community Redevelopment Agency have scheduled a public meeting Tuesday to discuss an ongoing recovery study aimed at revitalizing riot-damaged commercial areas in South Crenshaw.

The meeting will begin at 7 p.m. in the parish hall of St. John the Evangelist Church, 6001 Victoria Ave. Residents, property owners, business people and community leaders are encouraged to attend.

Galanter will introduce the 19-member Community Advisory Committee she appointed to help the redevelopment agency with its local revitalization strategies.

Committee members will also help define boundaries for the study area, which now includes Crenshaw Boulevard between 51st and 79th streets, Slauson Avenue between Hillcrest Drive and Van Ness Avenue, and Florence Avenue between Crenshaw Boulevard and Van Ness Avenue.

Committee appointees include Clyde Johnson of the Black Employees Assn., John Mack of the Urban League, Valerie Shaw of the Crenshaw Neighborhood Development Corp., De Vaughn Lee of Crenshaw Neighbors and Mike Watanabe of the Asian American Drug Abuse Program.

Over the next year, the redevelopment agency will schedule public meetings for the advisory committee and the community to review area economic and demographic trends, as well as examine revitalization options and redevelopment potential.
