KOREATOWN : Business Training for Women Offered

The Korean Family Counseling and Legal Center and the California American Woman’s Economic Development Corp. will offer a 10-week training course for Korean-American women interested in opening their own businesses.

The course, which begins Sept. 25, will be taught in Korean, and all the materials used in the course are written in Korean. The cost of the course is $240.

Partial scholarships and payment plans are available to low-income applicants. Graduates of the program will be eligible for business loans from the Coalition for Women’s Economic Development and the L.A. Women’s Entrepreneurial Fund.

“Starting Your Own Business” will cover business planning, sales and marketing, public relations and advertising, business law, finances, insurance, banking and record-keeping.

The classes will be held Saturdays from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. at 610 S. Harvard Blvd., No. 230.

The business-training course is the first joint venture between the two nonprofit organizations. The counseling center, established in 1983, serves the Korean-American community in Southern California, offering counseling programs for individuals and families, seminars and referral services.

The American Woman’s Economic Development Corp., established in 1991, offers low-cost business-training courses, workshops and counseling for women interested in starting or expanding their businesses.
