Huge Rock Kills 2 Miners in Virginia
Associated Press
RIPPLEMEAD, Va. —
A rock the size of a school bus collapsed on two men about 1,200 feet underground in a limestone mine, killing both, officials said.
The miners were working Thursday on a drill at the APG Lime Corp. mine when a rock smashed onto the equipment and crushed them, said Don Cumbee, the mine’s general accounting manager. Their bodies were recovered Friday.
The federal Mine Safety and Health Administration ordered the mine to stop operations while the agency and the state Division of Mines investigate the accident.
