THOUSAND OAKS : Volunteers Sought to Help Patrol Trails

A Conejo Valley conservation agency is seeking volunteers to help patrol open space trails on foot, bicycle or horseback to help make up for cutbacks in city parks staff.

The Conejo Open Space Conservation Agency plans a meeting at 6:30 p.m. today at the Thousand Oaks City Hall conference room on the second floor for those who want to offer their time and service.

The agency works in conjunction with the Conejo Recreation and Park District.

“With the recent cutbacks, there aren’t as many rangers out there as there used to be,” said Lance Holt, who is organizing the volunteers. “If someone falls on the trail or breaks a leg out there, someone will be there. We can be the eyes and the ears for the rangers.”

The volunteers will receive training in first aid and open space rules. For more information, call Holt at (818) 991-4488.
