Plant Groundbreaking.: A groundbreaking ceremony is set today for Maruchan Inc.’s 400,000-square-foot manufacturing facility in the Irvine Spectrum.

Announced earlier this year, the facility is expected to add 100 jobs to the area. Maruchan, a manufacturer of oriental noodles and soup products, is a subsidiary of Toyo Sulsan Kaisha Ltd. of Japan.

Officials of the Irvine Co., developer of the Irvine Spectrum office and industrial park, have said that the factory is significant because Maruchan could have picked a site in Mexico or another region of the United States but chose to stay in Southern California instead. The company now has an office in Irvine.
