SPECIAL TO THE TIMES

Director, acting coach and actor David Ralphe, who’s been involved in some of the best Ventura County theater in the past few years, begins on Saturday a 10-week workshop in acting and scene study, to be held in three-hour sessions at the Santa Paula Theater Center.

“There are two goals,” Ralphe tells Theater Notes, “to deepen interpretive ability, and to help the person express himself.”

This isn’t for people who think that they might possibly be interested in acting: Commitment and onstage or workshop experience is required. There’ll be an interview with Ralphe before admission is granted.

The course fee is $200. Participants will receive individual coaching on scenes and audition monologues from Ralphe, who’s taught in New York and Los Angeles for 25 years and has received five Drama-Logue awards and an L. A. Weekly award for continuing excellence. The course begins Saturday at 10 a.m., and those wishing further information should call the Santa Paula Theater Center at 525-3073.

“TORTILLA” ROLLS BACK A WEEK: The opening of the Plaza Players’ production of Luis Santerio’s “Our Lady of the Tortilla” has been postponed from Saturday until Sept. 25, due to the recasting of two roles in the English-language comedy. “I knew it wasn’t going to be ready on time, and I can’t go up not being ready,” director Christina Aerenlund says. “I had two choices, to either walk away from the production altogether or postpone, so postpone was the better choice.”
