Washington State Cruises Past Oregon State, 51-6

Mike Pattinson connected with Deron Pointer for two touchdown pass plays and Kevin Hicks ran for two touchdowns Saturday in Washington State’s 51-6 Pacific 10 Conference victory over Oregon State.

Oregon State (1-2) entered the conference opener averaging 334 yards rushing, but was limited to 76 yards in 43 carries.

Four Washington State touchdowns came after Oregon State fumbles. Long kick returns by Pointer and Torey Hunter set up two more scores.

Washington State (2-1) rolled up 508 yards and held the Beavers to 108 yards.

Pattinson completed 24 of 41 passes for 324 yards and two touchdowns. He had two passes intercepted.

Pointer took the opening kickoff 48 yards to the Oregon State 49. Eight plays later, Delton Johnson scored on a four-yard run.

DeWayne Patterson jarred the ball loose from Ian Shields and Ray Hall recovered on the Oregon State 37 to set up the Cougars’ second score, which came on a four-yard pass from Pattinson to Pointer midway through the second quarter.

Pattinson also connected with Pointer on a 45-yard touchdown pass play for a 21-0 halftime lead.
