The two longest shots in Saturday’s 10th race at Fairplex, U.S. Of America at 48-1 and Brisk Sailing at 63-1, finished 1-2 to trigger a $23,453.40 $2 trifecta payoff, breaking the former Fairplex mark of $7,750.80 established Sept. 26, 1992.
Southern Wish ran down Native Boundary in the stretch to win the $50,000-guaranteed Phil D. Shepherd Stakes by three-quarters of a length.
David Flores registered his third victory of the day aboard Southern Wish, who carried 122 pounds over the mile-and-one-sixteenth on a fast track in 1:42 2/5.
The victory was worth $27,500 to Southern Wish, boosting his career earnings to $122,875. Native Boundary finished 2 1/2 lengths in front of Big Pal in the field of seven older horses, and 19-10 favorite Regal Groom finished fourth.
