FCC to Survey Cable Industry: The regulators will survey the 25 largest cable TV companies to find out how rates and programming have changed since the new cable law went into effect, the Federal Communications Commission said. The survey will cover about 75% of the nation’s cable subscribers, the agency said. FCC Chairman James Quello said cable regulations may be strengthened if the survey shows that the formula intended to reduce rates has been ineffective. The commission wants companies to supply rate cards and channel lineups for April 5, when rates were frozen, and for Sept. 1, when new regulations went into effect.
