America Online to Provide Internet Access: Subscribers to America Online will soon have access to the global computer network that links more than 10 million users in 50 countries. Most Internet users now reach the network through a computer at a university, research center or corporate location. Several companies provide access for a monthly fee and the price of a local phone call, but the system is difficult to navigate. America Online, known for its user-friendly interface, plans to create icons and other graphic directions to help users find their way. The Vienna, Va.-based firm would be the first major on-line service to provide subscribers with a full-service path to the Internet.
