THOUSAND OAKS : City in Accord With Union on Contract

Share

Thousand Oaks has reached a tentative agreement with 240 municipal employees on a new contract, union officials said Monday.

While they would not release details of the contract, union officials said the negotiations had focused on three key issues: layoff procedures, employee evaluation techniques and employees’ request for binding arbitration of grievances.

“You never get all you want. If you did, you didn’t ask for enough,” said union spokesman Barry Hammitt. Nonetheless, he predicted the contract would win approval by union members, who will receive ballots in the mail as soon as negotiators review the final contract language.

The old contract expired in July, but employees agreed to keep working under those terms temporarily. Salary was not a major point of contention, according to the union.

The contract must also be approved by the City Council, which will meet in closed session tonight to review the tentative pact.
