MONTREAL : An Urban View

The Metropolis Assn., an international grouping of representatives from 50 cities with populations of more than 1 million, is meeting in Quebec’s biggest city this week hoping to find new ways to cooperate on common problems such as air and water quality and waste management.

Panelists will present case studies to show how various cities have dealt with specific environmental and development issues. The meeting in Canada is expected to attract more than 800 mayors and other urban officials.

Representatives will also discuss ways to implement “Agenda 21,” the goals set out at last year’s Earth Summit in Rio de Janeiro.
