Medical Firm Pulls Out of Workers’ Comp: CBL Medical Inc. joined the growing number of medical management firms pulling out of the workers’ compensation business in California. The Century City-based firm, which manages 10 clinics that treat injured workers, said it will sever its ties with those facilities. CBL, like many of its counterparts, blamed its problems largely on a dramatic slowdown in payments from carriers that, in an apparent effort to resist fraudulent claims, also have denied many legitimate claims for benefits. CBL said it will lay off nearly all of its 140 employees by early next year but will remain in business and pursue investments in other areas of the medical industry.
