STATE COLLEGE, Pa. — Kerry Collins, who got the quarterback job when John Sacca was pulled last week, passed for four touchdowns Saturday night as No. 9 Penn State beat Rutgers, 31-7.
Collins, who took over last week against Iowa when Sacca was ineffective, completed 18 of 25 passes for 222 yards.
Sacca, who threatened to quit the team, came in with 8 1/2 minutes left in the game.
The Nittany Lions (4-0) only permitted Rutgers (2-1) Brian Fortay’s 22-yard touchdown run with 49 seconds left.
Craig Fayak kicked a 28-yard field goal early in the second quarter, tying the school record of 40 field goals set by Massimo Manca in 1986.
