Washington Is Dominant Against East Carolina, 35-0

SEATTLE — Napoleon Kaufman gained 142 yards in 25 carries and ran for two touchdowns Saturday and the defense did the rest as No. 16 Washington beat East Carolina, 35-0, in a nonconference game.
Washington forced five turnovers. Andy Mason recovered two fumbles and David Killpatrick had two of the Huskies’ three interceptions.
Washington (2-1) got its first shutout since it defeated Toledo, 48-0, on Oct. 12, 1991.
East Carolina (1-2), playing its first Pacific 10 Conference opponent, was shut out for the first time since losing, 17-0, to South Carolina on Sept. 17, 1988.
Kaufman recorded his second 100-yard rushing game this season and had touchdown runs of one and three yards.
East Carolina managed only 103 yards of offense.
Washington gained 288 yards against an East Carolina defense that allowed an average of 452.5 in the first two games.
Washington’s Damon Huard completed 12 of 23 passes for 102 yards.
