MISSION VIEJO : Chamber to Ask for Financial Support

Share

For the first time, the South County Chamber of Commerce is asking Mission Viejo to help finance local business activities.

Today, the chamber will ask the City Council for $10,000 to support its Mission Viejo branch.

Local chamber leaders say they would use the money to offset start-up costs incurred by the South County chamber and to continue promoting business events in the city.

The Mission Viejo chamber affiliate has worked closely with the city on several major projects recently, including a business expo to be held for three days in the Mission Viejo Mall beginning Oct. 8. Other local chamber activities include hosting economic development forums and working on Mission Viejo business issues, such as the city sign ordinance and a proposed no-smoking law.

Mayor Robert D. Breton said the Mission Viejo chamber has been active in the city.

“I don’t see anything wrong with giving serious consideration to a quasi-public but certainly private organization working for the betterment of Mission Viejo,” he said. “They’ve been a partner with the city in promoting our economic development.”
