Shoemaker Settles Price-Fixing Case: Keds Corp. won’t demand that its shoes be sold at specific prices and will donate $5.7 million to women’s and children’s charities to settle the case, federal and New York state authorities said. The settlement comes after an investigation by the Federal Trade Commission and the New York attorney general into retailers’ complaints that Keds prohibited discounts on certain styles. The company does not believe it violated any antitrust laws and “continues to believe its pricing policy was entirely lawful,” a company statement said, adding that Keds decided to resolve the issue to avoid any business disruption.
