THOUSAND OAKS : City to Observe Recycling Week

Share

Thousand Oaks residents can discard unwanted household items, benefit charity and get rid of non-working appliances during the city’s Waste Reduction and Recycling Week from Oct. 11 to 15, officials said.

Goodwill Industries will pick up usable clothes, toys, books and other items during the week. In addition, three trash haulers that serve the city will cart away yard waste at no charge and large appliances for half of the regular price of $25, officials said.

The event is part of the city’s recycling plan to meet state mandates to cut the flow of garbage sent to landfills 25% by 1995 and 50% by the year 2000, officials said.

Residents interested in volunteering to distribute promotional materials in their neighborhoods should call the city’s recycling hot line at 496-8679.

All items except broken large appliances will be picked up on the regular trash collection day. To have appliances picked up, residents must call their trash handler or the city to make an appointment.

Goodwill donations, including working appliances, should be clearly marked and set aside, also on the regular collection day.

The three companies that serve the city are Block Disposal, Conejo Valley Disposal and Newbury Disposal. For more information, call 497-8611, Ext. 319.
