Hit-And-Run Driver Kills Man in Pacoima
A man who worked as an ice cream vendor was killed Sunday in Pacoima when he was struck by a hit-and-run driver, police said.
Mario Afredo De Leon, a Guatemalan citizen, was crossing the street in the 13300 block of Van Nuys Boulevard about 7 p.m. when he was struck by a white pickup truck with a camper shell, said Sgt. John O’Toole.
De Leon, 45, was taken to Holy Cross Medical Center in Mission Hills where he was pronounced dead on arrival from massive head injuries.
Witnesses told police that De Leon worked as a street vendor but was not pushing a cart at the time of the accident.
O’Toole said De Leon was identified from an immigration document he was carrying.
