To help the needy stay warm this winter, South County community groups and businesses will be collecting sweaters and sweat shirts on “Sweater Saturday,” Oct. 9.

South County residents are being asked to bring adult and child-size items between 8 a.m. and 4 p.m. to collection points at the Vons supermarket in San Juan Capistrano, Pavilions markets in Monarch Beach and Mission Viejo, Household Bank in San Clemente and at the Laguna Niguel Community Expo at Design Center South.

Among the South County groups promoting the effort or conducting their own sweater drives are Saddleback Community College District, Mission Viejo; Sea Pointe Homeowners Assn., Dana Point; Aliso Viejo Community Assn.; South Orange County Community Services Council, Mission Viejo; the League of California Cities, Santa Ana; and the Capistrano Beach Sanitary District, Dana Point.
