United Flight Attendants Quit Buyout Bid: An effort by United Airlines employees to take a controlling interest in the company was thrown into doubt when the Assn. of Flight Attendants pulled out of negotiations after United decided to establish home bases for attendants in the Far East. This “will eventually lead to the loss of thousands of jobs,” the union said in a statement. What this means for the negotiations, which envision swapping more than $3 billion in wage and benefit concessions for a majority stake in the parent UAL Corp., remained uncertain. United said it was willing to continue talks, as did the two other unions on the employees side of the table: the Air Line Pilots Assn. and the Machinists union.
