Bergstrom AFB Now History

AUSTIN, Tex. —
Bergstrom Air Force Base, which opened early in World War II and later served as “the President’s airfield” for Lyndon B. Johnson, became a piece of history Thursday. The base southeast of Austin was transferred to the city, which plans to convert it to a new civilian airport.
